COLOURFUL: A Chinese painting
NEW DELHI: In what is a first, ten contemporary Chinese artists will showcase their work at Vadehra Art Gallery here beginning January 25. The exhibition of paintings -- Shanghai Contemporary -- is expected to be attended by Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Yuxi. The artists showcasing their works are Cha Guo Jun, Chen Jia Ling, Huang Ying Hao, Lina Nie Zhao, Sun Liang, Wang Jie Yin, Weiliang Zhao, Xu De Min, Yang Zheng Xin and Zhou Zhang Jiang. This exhibition by contemporary artists who have already showcased their paintings in galleries in the United States, Western Europe, South East Asia, Japan and China will be on view till January 28. "There are business and political contacts taking place between India and China," says Chintan Tiwari who is organising the show along with Mei Liang. "So we thought it was an opportune time to begin a dialogue on contemporary art," he adds. Chintan says both India and China have a booming art market and it was time both countries took a look at what is happening in the art scene of the other. "Though India and China are neighbours, there is a disconnect that takes place when it comes to art," says Chintan. Since the purpose of the exhibition is to start a dialogue on art between the two countries, a curator and a journalist from China will also be visiting the country to understand the art scene here. The Capital would get to see the works of the finest exponents of Chinese contemporary art, of which two are fine brush painters, this week.
