BANGALORE: Angry over the likelihood of women being denied a Cabinet berth in the ensuing Ministry expansion, women of various political parties and other organisations here on Tuesday warned that they would launch a State-wide agitation if at least two women were not inducted in the Ministry. The former Minister Leeladevi R. Prasad and the former MLA Pramila Nesargi, who have formed the Women's Reservation Committee, and members of the Coordinating Council of Voluntary Agencies, told presspersons, "it is unfortunate that the two parties in the coalition, the Janata Dal (S) and the Bharatiya Janata Party, are doing their best to disqualify the few women who had struggled as much as men." Political activist Swarna Prabhakar said it was unfortunate that the media was allowing itself to be used by the parties running a "personal" campaign against a woman legislator and resorting to emotional blackmail and even casting aspersions on her to ensure that she was not made a Minister. Ms. Nesargi said the campaign had spread to many parts of the State and thousands of women had expressed their solidarity for this cause. "We have challenged Railway Minister Lalu Prasad. Thousands of women are going to board trains to Delhi without ticket and join the protest to demand that Parliament pass the Bill," she said.
