KOLLAM: After lying in a state of suspended animation for the past couple of years, the need for a road over-bridge at the Kollam SP Office junction came up at a meeting called by Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan here on Tuesday The meeting was held at the Government Guest House with the officers concerned and representatives of the people. Mr. Gurudasan said after the meeting that he was hopeful that work on the construction of the bridge would start this year itself. For the realisation of the over-bridge, the State Government would have to construct the approach road. The Railways would only construct the portion over the railway lines. Mr. Gurudasan said that failure on the part of the State Government to make a budgetary allocation for the purpose since 2001 was the main reason why the approach road failed to come up. Mr. Gurudasan said the State Government had now taken a decision to make a suitable supplementary budgetary allocation for the purpose. A final plan was approved at the meeting. The approach road on the northern side will pass through the southern side of the T.K. Divakaran Memorial Park to meet the National Highway. Kollam Mayor N. Padmalochanan was present at the meeting. The meeting was also attended by P. Rajendran, MP, and top officers of the Public Works Department.
