Waghela plans fast

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: The Union Textile Minister, Shankersinh Waghela, will launch a 52-hour fast here from the Gandhi Nirvan Day on January 30 against alleged relaxation in prohibition policy by the Narendra Modi government in Gujarat.

Announcing this here on Tuesday, Mr. Waghela said he would begin his fast from 12 noon at the Kocharab Ashram, the first ashram Mahatma Gandhi set up in Ahmedabad before the Sabarmati Ashram.

He would then lead a Congress "padyatra" from the Kochrab Ashram to Sabarmati Ashram where a prayer meeting would be held at 5 p.m. to pray to God for giving "wisdom" to the Modi government which was out to "murder" Gandhian values in Gandhiji's Gujarat, the Pradesh Congress president, Bharat Solanki, said.

Mr. Waghela would continue his fast for the next 48 hours at the Sabarmati Ashram ending at 4 p.m. on February 1.
