Plea to increase quota of kerosene allotment under PDS

KOZHIKODE: The All Kerala Retail Ration Dealers' Association has welcomed the initiative taken by Food Minister C. Divakaran to meet the Union Petroleum Minister and impressing on him the need to increase the quota of kerosene allotment under the public distribution system (PDS) to the State.

Association district general secretary T. Mohammed Ali said a meeting of the district committee held at Koyilandy on Tuesday decided to hold a symposium as part of the district conference of the association.

Political, social and cultural leaders would be invited to discuss the issue of unprecedented rise in the prices of essential commodities and the efficacy of the PDS.

Association State working president M.V. Basheer presided over the meeting.

It was pointed out that ration dealers did not get the allotment of 25 kg food grains for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) card-holders on many occasions for distribution. Only 21 kg food grains was distributed.

Anomaly

This anomaly should be removed. Also, rice for Annapoorna card-holders was not available on a regular basis. Sugar allotment for BPL card-holders was not being provided for the past two months.

The dealers were yet to get the money for providing free rations to Adivasis and those affected by natural disasters in the district for the past two months, said Mr. Mohammed Ali.
