Teachers oppose move on pension

Writ petition on IIT

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court heard the arguments in a writ petition filed by former TDP MP S. Venugopalachary wherein the decision of the Government not to stick to the resolution of the Assembly to set up IIT at Basar was challenged. Court directive on prisoners' release

HYDERABAD: Justice Eswaraiah of Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday ordered issuance of the notice to the Government wherein the Government Orders issued to facilitate release of prisoners serving sentences subject to good behaviour and other conditions have been challenged. The Government was directed to file its counter by next week. - Legal Correspondent

MEO tries to end life

ANANTAPUR: Unable to withstand political pressure in the sanction of works civil works in ZP schools, MEO of Kambadur, C.D. Selvam, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming an overdoes of pills at a lodge here on Tuesday. He was immediately rushed to hospital. In a police complaint , he alleged that a TDP ZPTC member and Mandal Parishad President had been harassing him for sanction of school works to TDP supporters. - Staff Reporter

Call to reopen depots

HYDERABAD: The State Council of APSRTC Employees' Union, which concluded its two-day meeting on Monday, demanded reopening of closed depots and revival of satellite depots. It also demanded regularisation of casual drivers, conductors and mechanics. - Special Correspondent

Two boys drowned

ADILABAD: Ten-year-old Vinod and 12-year-old Sairaj drowned in the Gopai Cheruvu tank in Utnoor on Tuesday when they entered the tank to have a bath. The two were students of Little Flower School. - Staff Reporter

Court directive to police

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday directed the Department of Police to file a comprehensive affidavit regarding its policy and action plan on dealing with reports of missing persons. The Bench was dealing with a telegram received by the High Court complaining of missing persons. - Legal Correspondent

Lifer for killing wife

ADILABAD: Adilabad Second Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) K.V. Vijaya Kumar on Tuesday sentenced Palnati Venkati of Patnapur in Jainoor mandal to life and fined him Rs. 7,000 for killing his wife, Nirmalabai seeking dowry. He also sentenced his Venkati's brithers Ramu, Hanmanthu, Gunwanth and sister-in-law Kamlabai to three years' imprisonment. - Staff Reporter

SP directed to trace `kidnapped' person

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court comprising Justice Meena Kumari and Justice Chandraiah on Monday directed the Superintendent of Police, Kurnool District to see that one Shankaraiah is produced before the court by Thursday. The Bench was dealing with writ petition filed by Parvathamma who complained that her husband has been kidnapped and the police are not taking any action in spite of repeated requests.
