IN HONOUR: Students from different schools taking out a procession under the banner of the All India Democratic Students Organisation to mark the 110th birth anniversary of Subash Chandra Bose in Gulbarga on Tuesday.
GULBARGA: The 110th birth anniversary of Subash Chandra Bose was observed with traditional fervour in the district, with freedom fighters and members of political parties garlanding the statue of the leader in the city and his portraits in different parts of the city and district. The All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) organised a procession of students from different schools in the city from Vallabhai Patel Chowk to the Deputy Commissioner's office. Representatives from different organisations and political parties garlanded the leader's statue at Nehru Gunj and paid tributes to his contribution to the freedom struggle. Freedom fighter and winner of the State Ekikarana Award Sardar Sharanagowda Inamdar at a function organised by the Seva Dal at Chandrasekhar Patil Stadium lamented that true independence was still a dream for millions of poor people. He said the country was yet to overcome the problems of unemployment and illiteracy, and the poverty levels here were higher than those in other countries. All these problems were standing in the way of the country's development, he added. He also mentioned the increasing threat faced by people from terrorism, and said a sense of insecurity was prevailing throughout the country. It had come to a point where the people had to take precautionary measures themselves without waiting for government agencies to protect them, he said. At the district Congress party office, senior Congress leaders, including former president of the district Congress committee and former Mayor Siddaram Iyereddy, District Women's Cell president and former Mayor Chandrika Parameshwar and other senior leaders garlanded a portrait of Subash Chandra Bose. Former Minister S.K. Kanta and freedom fighter Vidyadhar Guruji participated in the celebrations organised at Mallikarjun Kharge Primary School here.
