WALKING TOGETHER: A huge procession being held in the city as part of the Virat Hindu Samajotsava held in Hassan on Tuesday.
HASSAN: The Virat Hindu Samajotsava concluded at Government High School Grounds in Hassan on Tuesday. The procession along with several cultural troupes started from Exhibition Grounds and passed through the city. The crowd was very disciplined and police had little work to do. Several women attended the meeting. Addressing the gathering, former vice-chancellor of Mysore University Chidananda Gowda said just like all rivers join the sea after flowing to certain distance, all religions preaching peace and tranquility lead us to moksha. No religion preaches violence and unity is important but this should be used for constructive work, he said. Through such conferences one should make the country stronger by inculcating patriotism. He advised people to practice universal brotherhood. Shivananda Shivayogi Rajendra Mahaswami advised people to follow dharma and maintain communal harmony. He regretted that present day youth were misguided and they must be brought on the right track.
`Follow the leaders'
Prabhakar Bhat another speaker stressed the importance of Vande Mataram and advised people to follow the principles preached by great men such as Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Vivekananda. President of Sri Guruji Janma Shatabdi Samithi Seshashayana in his welcome address advised people not to allow the practice of untouchability to continue. President of reception committee H.K. Bore Gowda, general secretary Parasmal, organising secretary Guruprasad and other members were present.
