Tributes paid to Netaji

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri paid floral tributes at the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Subhash Park here on the occasion of his 110th birth anniversary on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Suri said the ideals shown by Netaji were worth following today. Netaji's slogan ``Give me blood and I will give you freedom" will ever be a source of inspiration for all of us, added Mr. Suri.

Airport modernisation

NEW DELHI: Taking the modernisation process one step further, the Delhi International Airport (Pvt) Limited (DIAL) has received the Environmental Clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) for the expansion, restructuring and modernisation of the Delhi airport.

The clearance was issued to DIAL based on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study. A thorough study, the impact assessment looked at all aspects like air quality, water quality, soil characteristics and noise levels. Based on the environmental model study carried out, the impact of the airport development activities on the existing conditions is well within the statutory permissible limits.

Bravery awards winners honoured

NEW DELHI: Winners of the National Bravery Awards-2006, including 12 girls, were honoured by the State Bank of Patiala at a function at Purshotam Hindi Bhavan here. Chief General Manager of the Bank Diwakar Gupta lauded the spirit of the children who risked their lives to save others and brought glory to their families. He also gave away gifts to the children on behalf of the Bank.

The parents of the children, senior functionaries of Indian Council for Child Welfare and senior officials of the Bank were present at the function.

Road renamed

NEW DELHI: Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday renamed the road from Indraprastha School near Jama Masjid to Red Fort as Sri Krishan Khanna Marg.

Besides Standing Committee Chairman Jai Kishan Sharma, prominent citizens of the Walled City area were present at the function.

A freedom fighter and social reformer, Krishan Khanna was born in 1906. In 1956, he was elected as member of the then Municipal Committee. Later, in 1958 he was elected as Councillor in Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
