TDP gearing up for corporation polls

Rajahmundry: The East Godavari unit of the Telugu Desam Party has exuded confidence that it will fare well in the forthcoming municipal corporation elections.

Addressing the party extensive meeting here on Tuesday, TDP district president Jyothula Nehru said the process of selecting candidates for wards was complete and the list was sent to the party head office.

He said all district leaders would come to Rajahmundry and campaign for the success of candidates. Party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu would also participate in the campaign, he added.

Party senior leader Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary said that ward-wise committees for elections would be formed.

Mayor M.S. Chakravarti listed the developmental works taken up in the last five years.

Directive to RTC

The State Government in a special G.O. has asked the APSRTC to hand over five acres of land in Aryapuram to the Municipal Corporation of Rajahmundry for construction of flood absorption tank in public interest.

The Government Order, dated January 22, from Transport, Roads and Buildings Department has said that Municipal Corporation has requested the APSRTC that the land of five acres in Aryapuram may be handed over in exchange for their land at Gokavaram and Kotipally bus stations admeasuring one acre and 0.67 acres respectively along with stalls and standing structures belonging to the Municipal Corporation.

The Municipal Corporation in its standing committee resolution resolved to exchange the said sites for 33 years lease basis on an annual lease amount of Rs.100 excluding the shopping complexes constructed with loan by the Hudco and IDSMT as the shopping complexes were constructed under IDSMT Scheme and Central Government grant and Hudco loan.

"In public interest, the Government accorded permission to above exchange through special Government Order," it said.
