Sangareddy: Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam Trust Board Chairman B. Karunakara Reddy has said that the free marriages programme, `Srinivasa Kalyana Masthu', would be continued and a trust would be formed to organise them twice every year in all the TTD function halls in the State. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy said that the board has taken a conscious decision to take up mass marriages to arrest the conversion of low caste Hindus to other religions alleging ill treatment at the hands of upper caste Hindus. He said many of the Kalyanamantapams built by the TTD lacked basic maintenance as the selection was based on political compulsions. He said that 115 out of the 240 built by the board so far are not in demand. He said that the board has decided to handover maintenance of such function halls to Hindu voluntary organisations. Accepting the need to speed up the darshan process, he said that more than 400 devotees forego their chance at the cost a VIP. Later at an orientation programme, temple priests, led by Parpattedar Seshadri performed Nischitardhams to four couples who registered their names for free marriage.
