CUTTACK: Rich tributes were paid to the great visionary Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 111th birth anniversary here on Tuesday. Prayer meetings, pujas, blood donation camps and several other cultural functions and competitions for children marked the celebrations in Cuttack, the birthplace of Netaji. The day began with `Ram dhoon' reverberating the entire city as Netaji lovers moved about singing bhajans and kirtans early in the morning. Netaji's ancestral home `Janakinath Bhawan' at Oriya Bazar was abuzz with activities since morning. A grand puja and yagna were performed under the aegis of the Netaji Birthplace National Museum Trust in the room of the two-storeyed building where Netaji was believed to have taken birth a little after 12 noon. A special cultural programme was organised in the sprawling bhawan in the morning that was telecast live by Doordarshan. Hundreds of Netaji lovers and eminent people of the city thronged the 126-year-old building in the morning and offered prayers. Netaji's Alma matter - Stewart School and Ravenshaw Collegiate - also organised several functions on the occasion. Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chaterjee and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik attended a public meeting at Ravenshaw Collegiate. BERHAMPUR: Forward Bloc activists organised a blood donation camp in the city on the occasion.
