MANGALORE: Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Suzlon are planning expand their network to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts "in a big way" as per assurances given by the companies to Minister for Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu at an investors' meeting, here on Monday. According to Mr. Naidu Wipro had assured to set up an information technology park on 100 acres of land either in Dakshina Kannada or Udupi with an investment of Rs. 1,800 crore. The company had plans to invest Rs. 180 crore on the project in the first stage. According to the company, the park would create jobs for 15,000 people. Mr. Naidu said that TCS had assured to invest Rs. 640 crore on 100 acres of land. It had plans to provide employment to 20,000 people. Suzlon had plans to set up a windmill at Padubidri in Udupi district with an initial investment of Rs. 500 crore. It had agreed to raise the investment to Rs. 1,000 crore in a phased manner to provide employment to 3,000 people, he said. The MRP group had promised to set up an IT park and a hotel with an investment of Rs. 100 crore. It would provide employment to 500 people, Mr. Naidu said.
`Internet city'
A Dubai-based company had plans to set up an "Internet city" on 50 acres of land with an investment of Rs. 150 crore. It had promised to provide employment to 10,000 people. The Leela group of hotels had plans to invest Rs. 350 crore on 75 acres of land to provide employment to 5,000 people. The Raju group of companies had plans to set up an IT and IT-enabled project with an investment of Rs. 75 crore. It would to provide jobs to 5,000 people, Mr. Naidu said. The Minister said that B&B Infrastructure Group of Bangalore had assured to invest Rs. 250 crore on 25 acres of land to provide employment to 5,000 people. The other companies that have assured to invest are Spotlight Hotel, Maurya group, Blue Valley Hotel group and Dia systems.
