HYDERABAD: The closure of the driving track used to test the skills of aspirants for driving licences at Trimulgherry is forcing the applicants to go all the way to Nagole to take the test. The Trimulgherry track was damaged during the last monsoon. With the authorities not planning to restore the track the licence applicants at Khairatabad and Secunderabad too are forced to travel all the way to Nagole. "It's been about a year that the track is left unused and there is nothing to show that a track existed here. Things became worse last year, when two women were injured taking a test," says a senior official. On an average, 80 learning licence applications are received daily at the Trimulghery office. On Saturdays, it touches a 100 with software, corporate employees' applications dominating the numbers. Applicants point out that it would be easier if the track was revived, as it reduces time and distance. On the contrary it is lack of manpower at RTA that is affecting its revival. "We need 51 vehicle inspectors in the city to conduct our operations but there are 34 inspectors. Using them at the track here will affect other operations", says the official. Problems for applicants are set to increase further as the Police Transport Organisation is proposing to takeover the Nagole track land. "We are looking for alternative sites for a new track. At present, there are no proposals to re-establish the Trimulghery track," says Deputy Transport Commissioner G. Panduranga Rao.
