BANGALORE: Confusion prevails over the indefinite strike call given by the lorry owners from January 25 to protest against the hike in insurance premiums as two rival organisations have issued contradictory statements to the press on Tuesday. While the Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners' Association has called for an indefinite strike from January 25 following the failure of talks with the officials of Union Surface Transport and Finance Ministries in Delhi on Tuesday, the All India Motor Transport Congress has said that the strike has been called off, leading to confusion. In a release, the Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners' Association has said that a delegation led by its president, B. Chennareddy met the officials in Delhi on Tuesday, and the meeting had failed. It said that the indefinite strike had been called to protest the hike in third party insurance premium by 150 per cent by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA). The Federation is an affiliate of All India Confederation of Lorry Owners' Association. However, the All India Motor Transport Congress said that the IRDA has revised the third party premium rate for goods carrying vehicles following the discussions with the Government. It said the IRDA circular dated January 23 has provided details on premiums for different categories of vehicles. The AIMTC has also requested police protection.
