NEW DELHI: A 14-year-old child's wait for justice continues 16 months after she was allegedly criminally assaulted by her maternal uncles at Ambedkar Nagar in South Delhi. None of the accused has been arrested despite the minor identifying them. Irked by the lack of action, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has already moved the court twice to get the guilty arrested in the incident that occurred in September 2005. After the DCW moved the High Court in 2005, the Court had directed that investigations be conducted into the incident. But the police closed the case in September 2006, despite the victim recording her statement before a Magistrate identifying all the accused. The DCW moved the Patiala House Court last December and the Magistrate summoned the investigating officer who said the case was closed as the accused have denied the allegations. Even as the Magistrate has ordered a speedy re-investigation and a submission of a final report by February 1, DCW officials are hoping that the case would see some kind of conclusion.
