NGO team visits Nithari

Staff Reporter

Fact-finding team to know the truth behind the incident

NOIDA: A 20-member delegation of the International Human Rights Protection Association (IHRPA), a non-government organisation working for human rights of the underprivileged across the globe, visited the site of the serial killings at Nithari here on Tuesday.

Led by IHRPA national president J. P. Asthana, the delegation members interacted with the families of the victims and expressed concern over the barbaric incident. "We met families of the victims and tried to know whether they were satisfied with the efforts of the authorities in the aftermath of the incident. We also asked whether they had got the compensation announced by the State Government. But the families appeared to be under some pressure as their replies seemed orchestrated," said IHRPA general secretary Pravin Bhaduria.

He said the association would constitute its own fact-finding team to know the truth behind the incident and the factors that contributed to it. Mr. Bhaduria said: "The macabre incident could not be brought to light for so long as the families were not acquainted with the working of the legal system. Our Association has now decided to organise a camp here to create awareness among them. Increased awareness among the masses would certainly prevent repetition of such incidents."

It is learnt that the polygraph test conducted on Maya, the maidservant of the accused Moninder Singh, has not proved of much consequence. She was put to a lie-detector test by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday following her contradictory statements. The CBI also questioned family members of some of the victims at its CGO complex headquarter in New Delhi.
