TIRUPATI: A national seminar on `Hindu cosmology' will be conducted by the State unit of Itihasa Sankalana Samithi (Bharatiya) on February 10 and 11 in Tirupati. The meet will primarily deliberate on two themes, `Hindu cosmology in consonance with modern science' and `Temple as a matrix of Indian history and culture'. While the first topic deals with the differences between Hindu scientific approach and the modern science, the underlying point of discussion will be as to how science and religion never opposed each other in India since the ancient times, unlike in the west where the two always locked horns. The meet will also discuss time and space, the concept of `Infinite', the significance of Konark temple in Orissa, the "Surya Siddhanta" of 3000 BC, a textbook on astronomy of ancient Bharat. Another interesting feature will be "cosmic symbolism", which refers to Brahma on a lotus emerging from the navel of the sleeping Maha Vishnu, the cosmic dance of `Nataraja' and the mystery behind the number `108'.
