CPI(M) wants order of fund cut withdrawn

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The CPI (M) has urged the Government to withdraw its orders slashing the budget for weaker section hostels and scholarships to students.

B.V. Raghavulu, party secretary, in a letter to the Chief Minister on Wednesday, said the order had recommended a Rs. 100 crore cut in the budget for SC, ST and BC hostels. This included a cut of Rs. 10 crores in the diet and cosmetics charges for SC hostel students.

He alleged that though the Government had enhanced mess charges by 25 per cent for the hostels, it had not released the required amount of Rs. 58.11 crores.

Mr. Raghavulu lamented that the Government had expressed helplessness in paying Rs. 100 crores worth scholarships to SC students and Rs. 66 crores to BC students.

He reminded the Chief Minister that his orders last month, for the release of Rs.100 crores for hostels pending receipt of Central funds, had not been implemented so far.
