New broad gauge line

ADILABAD: The newly converted broad gauge line between Kinwat and Mudkhed stations in Maharashtra will be inaugurated on January 31 by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. HYDERABAD: The State committee of Girijan Sangham on Wednesday warned the Government that it would launch a State-wide agitation if the tribal welfare budget was cut. HYDERABAD: Ahmed Kamal, Deputy Director, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, has been selected for UKIERI Standard Award-2006. A research grant of 1.5 lakh pounds had been awarded for a project proposal between him and Andrew David Miller, Imperial College, Genetic Therapies Centre, London on `Biomedical solutions for India and UK for discovering next generation anti-infective drugs.' - Special Correspondent

Sheep rearers' plea

KURNOOL: AP Sheep and Goat Breeders Association (affiliated to the CPI-M) has urged the Government to initiate action against companies that prepared formulations against the guidelines. Association secretary P. Jamalaiah said on Wednesday that the Drug Control Authority had banned the sale of butazone and analgin in the combination form. Three drug companies flouted the rules and manufactured combination drugs, which were unearthed at Eluru, he alleged and sought action against them. — Special Correspondent

Training for RTC conductors

KURNOOL: Principal of APSRTC Staff Training College J. Srihari has called upon conductors to strive for retaining the existing commuters who travelled by the corporation buses. Traders robbed of cash

KURNOOL: An unidentified gang waylaid a truck between Atmakur and Nandyal on Tuesday night and relieved three traders travelling by it of Rs 1.30 lakhs. The victims were identified as G. Mohan, Annaiah and subba Rao. The crime was committed at Santa Jutur bridge.— Special Correspondent
