Sangareddy: Medak district collector B. Venakatesam launched the first-ever mid-day meal scheme for madarsas in the State at the Peddapur based Daar-Ul-Uloom Anwaar-E-Zakir on Wednesday. The scheme, which is an extension to the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan programme being implemented in the State, envisages equal facilities to minority students under the madrsas educational system.

More than 120 students studying at the madarsa which was established in 2000 would have access to books on various subjects and get to study mathematics, science and english like their counterparts in regular schools. Anwaar-E-Zakir is one of the 24 out of 36 madrsas in the Medak district where the mid-day meal programme is launched.

    No interference

Sarva Siksha Abhiyan State project director K. Chandrmouli who addressed the function through his mobile tried to allay fears of the minority community and said that the Government has no intention to interfere in the management of the madrsas through this scheme.

He pointed out that the SSA would limit its inspection to the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme and is not interested in other aspects like finances.

Chandramouli announced that basing on the performance of the madarsa, SSA would provide computers and workbooks for the students.

Chief editor of Siasat daily Zahid Ali Khan who announced Rs 1 lakh for the completion of the additional classrooms in the Madarsa called upon the Muslim clergy not to deprive the Madrsas students of modern education.
