Power shutdown

Chennai: Power supply will be suspended in Anna Nagar and Mandaveli on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Training on orchard establishment

Urban Horticulture Development Centre will conduct a one-day training programme on "orchard establishment" on January 31. The course will train the participants on selection of land, selection of fruit crops, land preparation, spacing, planting, watering and seedling care for establishing fruit orchards. The centre is located at 44, 6th Avenue, Anna Nagar. Contact 26263484.

Leprosy awareness programme

Gremaltes Hospital, in association with Indian Development Foundation, is organising a weeklong awareness programme on leprosy and its effective tackling. The programme, to be held on January 30, is open for college students, trainee nurses and self-help group members. The programme includes exhibitions, orientations, interactive sessions, slide shows and film shows. An exhibition on leprosy will also be organised for the public at Nungambakkam Railway Station on January 27 between 8 a.m. and noon. Contact: 26443411.

Workshop

Indo-American Chamber of Commerce will organise a workshop on "Working effectively across cultures - Focus on the U.S." at Hotel Savera on January 31. The workshop will cover topics such as understanding the impact of culture on communication mediums, using technology across cultures, case studies, examples and reviews on what Indian businesses need to do in order to be competitive in a culturally diverse environment. ATMs opened

Canara Bank opened ATMs on Wednesday in Thiruvanmiyur, Mogappair, Sholinganallur, Velachery and G.N. Chetty Road. With the opening of these five ATMs, Canara Bank has a total of 89 ATMs in the city.

The bank proposes to open 21 more ATMs in various parts of the city by March 2007.

Alumni meet

Eye camp

Rajan Eye Care Hospital, in association with Rainboy Eye Hospital, Karunkuzhi, conducted a free eye screening camp at Mettupalayam, Uthramerur on January 21. More than 200 patients were screened for various eye problems by a team of doctors.

Twentyfive patients were referred for cataract surgery at Rajan Eye Care Hospital. Free medicines and spectacles were distributed.
