HYDERABAD: The Government would soon have a new policy with regard to admissions and administration of minority colleges offering professional courses and this is being designed to give more weightage to students' interests. A committee constituted by the Government consisting of senior officials has met twice and the final meeting would be held on January 27 where they would give shape to the new policy. The committee consists of APSCHE Chairman K.C. Reddy, Secretary M.D. Christopher, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Asutosh Mishra, Director, Technical Education R.M. Nimje and officials from the Departments of Law and Minority Welfare. Mr. Christopher said the SSC Transfer Certificate based on which the minority status is now being decided would be continued and a general consensus emerged on this aspect. Minority status would be given to the colleges and not the trusts that promote colleges. Key issues of administration and admission based on the Supreme Court judgment in the Inamdar case were widely discussed at the two meetings. Though the final result would come out on January 27 the policy would ensure that students are on the advantageous side. The new policy is being formulated in the wake of criticism that Government was lenient on the minority managements despite they flouting several norms. The new policy would come into effect from the 2007-2008 academic year.
