What is it with mobile phone earpieces and motor vehicles these days; that too `boom microphone' earpieces?

Thanks to the Mohanlal-starrer `Baba Kalyani,' where the hero is seldom seen without such an earpiece, it has become the in thing now to walk about in a similar fashion.

Many youngsters who earlier found this particular variety of earpiece `not cool' are suddenly discovering its virtues. The only folks who are not amused by the earpiece hoopla are the traffic police. Using the mobile phone while driving is, for them, still an offence; earpiece or not.
