Oldest Bar set to go to polls

BERHAMPUR: The process to elect the office-bearers of more than 150-year-old Ganjam Bar Association, said to be the oldest in the State, has commenced.

Election officer Basant Panda informed that filing of nominations for the posts of president, secretary and second secretary was over on Wednesday. Elections would be held through secret ballot on February 9. The association has over 1,500 members. Four candidates filed papers for the post of president. They included continuing president Sisir Padhi, P.J. Padhi, B.V.H. Sharma and Sudhansu Panda.

For the post of secretary, Manoj Patnaik, Pradip Kumar Panda, Surya Narayan Patnaik and Rabindra Kumar Deo filed papers. Eight persons filed papers for the post of assistant secretary. They are Gopal Krushna Panda, Karunakar Panigrahy, A. Shyamghan, Nrusinha Prasad Panda, Simanchal Bisoi, Sanjeev Kumar Patro, Prasant Kumar Nayak and Prasant Kumar Sabat. Nomination would be scrutinised on January 27 and the last date for withdrawal is January 29.
