Revisiting Gandhian thought

Madhur Tankha

NEW DELHI: A two-day national dialogue on "An India Without Hunger and Violence" that is the highlight of a series of programmes planned across the country during the centenary of Satyagraha begins at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) here this Saturday.

Organised jointly by IGNOU and Indian Council of Gandhian Studies, the event will see the participation of noted Gandhian thinkers, women activists, and human rights activists. Academicians, scientists, legal luminaries and artists will also attend the dialogue. The event is a sequel to a national campaign launched by Indian Council of Gandhian Studies two years ago under the guidance of former President R.Venkataraman to enlist one lakh families to the "Hinsa Mukht Bharat" campaign.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Indian Council of Gandhian Studies Chairman N. Radhakrishnan said the event seeks to interpret Mahatma Gandhi in a new way in the emerging context. "The event aims at taking the message of Satyagraha to the younger generation in a language and idiom that is acceptable to them," he added.
