Curb on printing `defamatory' articles on Narayan Rane

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Thursday restrained the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna from reprinting till February 12 alleged defamatory articles on Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane published after he left the party.

Judge clarifies

However, judge D.K. Deshmukh clarified that Saamna was free to "print reports or articles on Rane's future conduct and to make honest and fair comment thereupon."

The next hearing is on February 12. Mr. Rane filed the defamation suit last October.

Interim relief

Early this month, he approached the High Court for interim relief demanding that Saamna be restrained from publishing the alleged defamatory articles while the case was pending.

The court has asked Saamna's lawyer to file its reply by February 1. — PTI
