The Union Home Minister, Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, has been awarded Bharata Ratna in the President's awards on Republic Day published in a Gazette of India Extraordinary. Among the other awardees are: Padma Vibhushan: Mr. Sri Prakasa, Mr. M. C. Setalvad, Attorney-General, and Mr. Ghanshyamdas Birla. Padma Bhushan: Dr. Alagappa Chettiar, philanthropist, Prof. K.A. Nilakanta Sastri, historian and indologist, Smt. T.Balasaraswathi, Bharatanatyam artiste, Mrs. Andal Venkatasubba Rao, founder, Madras Seva Sadan, and Smt. Lakshmi N. Menon, MP. Padma Sri: Mr. L.M. Chitale, architect, Mr. Dwaram Venkataswami Naidu, musician, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, Professor of Library Science, Delhi University, and Mr. Balbir Singh, Captain, Indian Olympic hockey team.
