Farmers and farm labourers are taken care of in Union Territory

Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said that the administration was taking steps to raise the monthly assistance to the aged people and widows from the present Rs.500 to Rs.600. Greeting the people of the Union Territory on the occasion of the Republic Day, the Chief Minister said that his Government had initiated several measures to ameliorate the lot of farmers and farm labourers. Each of the farmers measuring paddy to Food Corporation of India, under a special arrangement introduced now, was getting an enhanced special incentive of Rs.50 for a quintal of paddy. Farmers were sanctioned crop loans at 7 per cent rate of interest through the cooperative credit societies and farm labourers were also taken care of through separate Welfare Board.
