"Government committed to provide clean administration"

Special Correspondent

Puducherry: Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi has sought cooperation of all sections to achieve the objective of developing prosperous Puducherry, as the aim of the Government was to ensure clean administration.

In his message on the occasion of Republic Day, Mr. Mithi said that the funds allocated under Special Component Plan would be entirely utilised for welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Working groups had been formed for ensuring uniform development in all the four regions of the Union Territory.

He said that in the national front the growth rate of agriculture had not been as encouraging as other sectors. In Puducherry, it was above national average. For convergence of activities of all allied departments for common benefit of farming community, the administration would implement the new extension reforms suggested by the Centre by establishing an "Agricultural Technology Management Agency" (ATMA). The Administration had proposed to extend the "Varsha Bima", a new seasonal rainfall insurance scheme of the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited, to the farmers.

It had been decided to constitute a separate Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs to encourage sports.

A "Puducherry Institute of Fisheries Science and Technology" would be set up to train fishermen on various disciplines. Puducherry would be made a highly favoured tourist destination for holidaymakers by strengthening infrastructure.
