NEW DELHI
: The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation on an appeal by the former Union Minister, Shibu Soren, challenging his conviction in the Shashinath Jha murder case.
A Division Bench, comprising Justice Manmohan Sarin and Justice S.L. Bhayana, directed the investigating agency to file a reply by February 19.
Mr. Soren also sought suspension of his sentence and grant of bail. The Bench will take up the bail application on February 19, the next date of hearing.
A Delhi court had awarded life imprisonment to him and four others in December. Shashinath Jha, private secretary to Mr. Soren, was abducted on May 22, 1994, from Dhaula Kuan in South-West Delhi and murdered in a residential colony in Ranchi.
It was alleged that he was killed because he knew about bribes paid to four erstwhile Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MPs, including Mr. Soren, to vote against the no-confidence motion against the P.V. Narasimha Rao Government in July 1993 and was demanding a share.
