CHENNAI: Sex education will be included in school syllabi in Tamil Nadu with emphasis on health and hygiene, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu informed the Assembly on Thursday. Replying to a question by Congress member E.S.S. Raman, the Minister said the Government wanted to include not only sex education but also health and hygiene and environment studies. It wanted to include lessons in school curriculum on problems that students would face during adolescence. The State had sent officials to New Delhi to study the suggestions made by the National Council for Educational Research and Training, which were successfully implemented in Delhi schools. Mr. Thangam Thennarasu said the Chief Minister, at the recent Collectors' meeting, had issued directions to provide toilets in all schools within three years.
