NEW DELHI:
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry was taken over by patriotic fervour on Thursday with the Petroleum Minister Murli Deora taking the lead.
In a change from routine, Mr. Deora arrived in the morning with lapel badges of the Indian tricolour and pinned them on the Ministry officials, beginning with Petroleum Secretary M.S. Srinivasan.
Soon, the lapel badges of the tricolour were in great demand with the officials and employees rushing in to get them affixed.
"I thought it a good idea to bring in patriotic fervour a day before we celebrate Republic Day," Mr. Deora remarked.
The exercise is not limited to the Ministry itself. Mr. Deora has ordered over 80,000 emblems, which would be sent to all employees of the public sector oil companies.
