NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand defeated Sergey Karjakin and joined three others in the third place after the 10th round of the Corus chess tournament on Wednesday. Veselin Topalov leads with 7.5 points, one ahead of Teimour Radjabov. Anand's victory came in 63 moves of Sicilian Najdorf after the Ukrainian youngster chose to trade his queen for a rook and a bishop in the middle game. Anand slowly seized the initiative and forced Karjakin to give up his knight for a `queened' pawn. The results: 10th round: Group `A': Sergey Karjakin (Ukr, 5) lost to Viswanathan Anand (6); Veselin Topalov (Bul, 7.5) bt Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 3); Teimour Radjabov (Aze, 6.5) drew with Peter Svidler (Rus, 6); Alexander Motylev (Rus, 4) drew with Vladimir Kramnik (Rus, 6); Sergei Tiviakov (Ned, 4) drew with David Navara (Cze, 4.5); Loek van Wely (Ned, 3.5) drew with Levon Aronian (Arm, 6); Alexei Shirov (Esp, 3) drew with Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukr, 5).
