KOTTAYAM: The Kerala Electricity Workers Federation has urged the Government to amend Electricity Act 2003, which aims at unbundling the State Electricity Board (SEB) before July 10, 2007 when the moratorium for unbundling would come to an end. In the Approach Paper for Eleventh Plan, adopted by the 14th State conference of the Federation here, A.N. Rajan, working president, pointed out that with the unbundling of the SEB, all the achievements gained by the State in power sector would come to nought. The privatisation efforts in Orissa and Delhi should be an eye-opener for those who call for privatisation, he said. Making alternative proposals for the 11th Plan, the Paper said focus should be on providing cheap electricity for the people. Price had always been an issue before the planners in the State and as a way out of the costlier alternatives, the State should focus on hydel projects, the paper said. The paper also points to need to speed up the Athirappally project during the 11th Plan period.
