Mulayam regime dismissal sought

Special Correspondent

`It indulged in horse-trading'

LUCKNOW: The Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) have demanded the dismissal of the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government and imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh.

In separate memoranda to Governor T.V. Rajeswar, after Mr. Yadav won the vote of confidence, these parties cited Transport Minister Naresh Agarwal's controversial comments, as the ground for the dismissal.

The Opposition alleged that outsiders had voted for the motion. They said the verdict showed that the Government had resorted to horse-trading.

Talking to journalists, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Salman Khurshid and Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari, accused the Government of shying away from its collective responsibility of the Council of Ministers under Article 164 (2) of the Constitution.

They demanded the dismissal of the Government to ensure free and fair Assembly elections.

Swami Prasad Maurya, who led the BSP delegation, told reporters that there was a possibility of rigging the coming polls.

RLD General Secretary Anil Dubey accused the Government of horse-trading and alleged that the MLAs were bought to win the confidence motion.
