Motor strike total

Staff Reporter

KANNUR: A hartal-like situation prevailed here on Thursday, as public transport vehicles, other than Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses, kept off the roads in response to the call for a 24-hour motor strike in protest against the increase in vehicle insurance premium.

Most shops were closed, anticipating lean business. Though KSRTC operated all its scheduled services, not many passengers were there to board them. The roads wore a deserted looks, with private buses, trucks, taxis and autorickshaws keeping off.

The strike did not affect movement of private vehicles.

The motor strike affected the functioning of Government offices, as attendance was thin. Educational institutions here also did not function.
