Drive against traffic rule violations

25 two-wheeler riders booked in Kozhikode district

KOZHIKODE: In a drive against violation of sections of the motor vehicles Act, 25 two-wheeler riders have been booked and their vehicles seized by the Regional Transport Authority, Vadakara.

The charges comprise driving without licence and absence of vehicle documents. The cases come under the purview of Vadakara, Nadapuram, Payyoli, and Perambra police stations.

Sources at the Regional Transport Office, Vadakara, say the drive has been initiated as a follow-up to the Road Safety Week observed recently.

R. Jayaprasad, Regional Transport Officer, Vadakara, has appealed to parents and others to cooperate and prevent school and college students under the prescribed age from riding two-wheelers and, thereby, help to curb accidents. There has been an increase in number of accidents involving underage drivers. Strict checks of vehicles are being conducted and fines imposed in cases of violation of rules.

The two-wheelers seized are those involved in a high number of accidents, M.P. Subhash Babu, Motor Vehicles Inspector, Vadakara, says.

Action is being initiated against more than 100 drivers, including students of schools and colleges. Those carrying more than one pillion rider and overtaking from the left side are being booked.

The authorities have booked drivers who did not stop when signalled to by the traffic inspection team. Their vehicles have been seized.
