Bangalore: The Karnataka Olympic Association's (KOA) proposal to disband the District Olympic Associations (DOA) will be debated in a special general body meeting scheduled for Friday. The DOAs of Shimoga, Chitradurga, Dharwad, Mangalore, Davangere and Haveri have already objected to the proposal. The Karnataka Amateur Athletic Association secretary, Mr Sathyanarayana, said: "It is unethical. Let the KOA authorities sack the non-performing officials of the District Olympic Associations but to disband the DOAs is an extreme step and we will protest this silently tomorrow (Friday), holding placards and waving black flags." The KOA officials, however, defend the plan. The KOA secretary, Anantharaju, said: "The DOAs have not been active members. They have not even renewed their membership with the KOA. Infact in the last general body meeting, only Dharwad was represented but this year even that association has failed to pay its renewal fees. Besides some sports have their district bodies that conduct the game and that leaves the DOAs redundant. They are not in a position to conduct sports meets or pay their membership fees but they want voting rights. Anyway all this will be discussed by the members at the special general body meeting and only then will a decision be taken. The recommendations for these amendments were made by a Sub-Committee appointed last year." Principal Correspondent
