Contempt notice has been withdrawn: Janardhan Reddy

Staff Correspondent

`False information was provided to the court'

BELLARY: Suspended BJP MLC Janardhan Reddy has said that the Supreme Court on Thursday withdrew the contempt notice served on him.

He told presspersons that his lawyer was successful in convincing

the court that he was not a party in the writ petition filed by H. Siddanna, former president of the Bellary City Municipal Council, with regard to illegal mining on the Bellary-Anantapur border. He said that his name was included recently.

An application had been filed before the court on Thursday, and following that the order to serve the contempt notice had been withdrawn, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said.

He said that false information was provided to the court only to tarnish his image and to take revenge on him for having levelled bribery charge against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Home Minister M.P. Prakash and Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa.

Mr. Janardhan Reddy said that two false cases had been registered against him in Bellary (Rural) and Sandur police stations.

"This has only added strength to my fight against corruption," he added.

Referring to the U.L. Bhat Commission favouring seeking of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) assistance in conducting probe into illegal mining in Bellary, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said that he would raise the issue during the Legislative Assembly session. He said he would urge the Government to give a reply. "When I sought a CBI inquiry, the Chief Minister said that the commission will look into it. Now the panel itself has favoured CBI assistance," he said.
