Minister assures hike in their travel allowance

  • `MPTC members should establish rapport with MPPs'
  • Gram panchayats to be given Central and State funds

KADAPA: MPTC members will be vested with powers in 12 Government departments in tune with the 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments and orders to this effect will be issued soon, Minister for Panchayat Raj and Endowments J.C. Diwakar Reddy said on Thursday.

MPs and MLAs have no special powers and they get works done with their proximity to Ministers. Similarly MPTC members should establish a rapport with mandal parishad presidents, he told a press conference at Gundlur village in Rajampet mandal. They already have powers to pass resolutions after discussing issues in mandal parishad meetings, he added.

    Honorarium

Steps would be taken to follow protocol for MPTC members in meetings of Indiramma and other schemes, the Minister assured. Assuring enhancement of their travel allowance from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100, he said he would discuss with Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on the demand for fixing honorarium for MPTC members. Gram panchayats were being granted funds by the Central and State Governments but they have to mop up additional funds, he stated.
