Protest against rise in prices

NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel has criticised the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre for failing to control skyrocketing prices of all essential commodities. He also held a dharna at Town Hall on Thursday protesting against the rise in prices and the Government's inaction. "After pulses, foodgrain and vegetables, now the milk distributing companies, including Mother Dairy that supplies the milk to a majority of Delhi homes, have raised their prices by Re.1.

International Customs Day

NEW DELHI: Meritorious officers were awarded at an investiture ceremony held here to mark International Customs Day on Thursday. Thirty officers were honoured at this function.

Addressing the officers, Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said the Customs was not only playing a vital role in the economic development of the country, but has a significant presence in combating financial and associated crime.

The theme of the International Custom Day this year was to fight against counterfeits and piracy, stated Chairman of the Central Board of Excise and Customs V. P. Singh.

New Director Finance for Oil India

NEW DELHI: T. K. Ananth Kumar has taken over as the Director (Finance) of the public sector company, Oil India Limited. Prior to this, Mr. Kumar was the Director (Finance) of the Assam Accord, Numaligarh Refinery Limited, a subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.

New office-bearers of SIPRA

NEW DELHI: In the elections to the State Information and Public Relations Association (SIPRA) held here last week, Gopendra Nath Bhatt has been elected president while Ambrish B. Kishore will be the new general secretary and Hansi Brijwasi treasurer. Mr. Bhatt is the Joint Director (Information & Public Relations) of the Rajasthan Government in New Delhi, while Mr. Kishore is the Information Officer to the Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor. Ms. Brijwasi is the Uttarakhand Government's Information Officer in Delhi. SIPRA is the organisation of the Information Officers of all the State Governments posted in the Capital.
