NEW DELHI: In a new initiative to make disabled persons self-dependent, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday distributed public call office (PCO) battery operated tri-cycles to 23 handicapped persons at her residence. Ms. Dikshit said the tri-cycles equipped with MTNL PCO with ISD, STD and local phone facilities would be easier to operate than hand-operated ones. She announced that about 200 handicapped persons would be provided such tri-cycles this year. The Chief Minister also lauded the role of Delhi SC/ST/OBC/Minorities and Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation Limited and MTNL for providing the tri-cycles free of cost to the needy. Stating that the actual cost of the set-up was Rs.20,000, she said, it had been brought down to just Rs.9,500 through as MTNL had provided the kits free of cost. Delhi Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said the PCO tri-cycles would enable the disabled earn their livelihood with honour and dignity.
