Comprehensive policy for displaced sought

  • Agitation planned for hike in compensation

    KADAPA: Communist Party of IndiaI (Marxist) district secretary B. Narayana on Thursday called upon the State Government to frame a comprehensive policy to compensate and rehabilitate families to be displaced by irrigation projects and industries, on the lines of West Bengal.

    Displaced families were being paid paltry compensation under Gandikota, Jharikona, Veligallu, Chitravathi balancing reservoir, Brahmamsagar, Somasila projects and Vamikonda and Nootikona reservoirs, he alleged at a press conference here on Thursday. Compensation

    The West Bengal Government was paying a compensation of Rs. 12.40 lakhs per acre for land in which two crops were raised in a year and Rs. 8.40 lakhs for land with one crop besides rehabilitating the displaced, he said. ACC Cements near Mylavaram and Raghuram Cements at Tippalur inYerraguntla mandal, setting up cement factories had paid only Rs. 1.20 lakhs per acre, he pointed out. Demanding compensation of Rs. 15 lakhs per acre to the displaced families, he urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to consider it positively. He warned of agitations soon for hike in compensation for lands acquired.
