Rajahmundry: As the State Election Commission issued notification for the Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation along with two other corporations, the administration is gearing up for the exercise. The nomination process will begin on Saturday. In the Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation (RMC), the number of wards has been extended to 50 from 44 as per the population. With regard to reservation of wards, one ward each for SC and ST and 17 for BCs have been allotted. Over 180 polling stations are likely to be set up and 250 Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) are kept ready for the elections.
Candidates' selection
Various political parties, which anticipated issue of poll notification on Thursday, already started selection of candidates and are preparing the cadre for the battle. Ruling party leaders Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao, Rowthu Suryaprakasha Rao and others are in search for a suitable candidate for the plum post of mayor which is reserved for BC woman. Telugu Desam leaders -- Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary, Ganni Krishna, Jyothula Nehru and Yanamala Ramakrishnudu -- are also on job of searching candidate for the key post. Addressing a press conference before the issue of notification, Mr. Ramamohana Rao said that selection of candidates would be done transparently and elected corporators would select the mayoral candidate. Mr. Suryaprakash Rao hoped that the Congress would win the elections.
