BHUBANESWAR: With increased freight loading and passenger carrying, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Thursday reported revenue earning of Rs. 3351.14 crores during last six months of current fiscal. The division loaded 60.58 million tonnes of freight by registering an increase of 7.4 per cent more than the corresponding period of last financial year, an ECoR release said here on Thursday. The ECoR also collected revenue of Rs. 2994.43 crores on this account, which was 18.3 per cent more compared to last financial year. On passenger front, the division carried 38.10 million of passengers, a growth of 15.27 per cent more than the corresponding period of last financial year and earned Rs. 321.55 crores.
`Spectacular growth'
"This spectacular growth has been achieved even after disruption in train movement due to agitations, rail roko, heavy rainfall followed by landslide and naxalite activities in the revenue generating areas," the ECoR said. The major commodities carried by this railway are coal, iron ore, finished steel, fertilizers, food grains, cement and other freight loadings.
