KARIMNAGAR: Sri Rajarajeshwara Swamy devasthanams of Vemulawada temple town earned revenue of Rs 1.3 crores on Thursday by auctioning the contract of collecting the tonsured hair at the temple shrine during the year 2007-08. During the last financial year, the devasthanam earned Rs 1.2 crores. It may be recalled that the devasthanams collected only Rs. 46 lakhs through auction of hair at the temple during the year 2005-06 following the formation of syndicate by the contractors. However, following the intervention by the new temple board committee, the devasthanams revenue has increased manifold following the reforms introduced by the board. Vemulawada Devasthanams chairman Adi Srinivas told The Hindu here on Thursday they had decided to modernise the existing `kalyana katta' for the benefit of pilgrims on the lines of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. He also said that they have chalked out strategies to form new queue lines at Vemulawada temple.In order to provide better amenities to the pilgrims, the Devasthanam has decided to construct modern cottages.
