NELLORE: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu has made it clear that the party would give tickets to those people, who had been active in the party, and half the seats to Backward Classes (BCs) in the Assembly elections. "Complaints are pouring in about several TDP leaders in many districts maintaining business relations with Congress leaders while some senior leaders are becoming indifferent to party activities. The party would deal with the matter very seriously," said Mr. Naidu, while addressing district party meeting, here on Thursday. "Besides, it will not allow those leaders who usually shift parties, to the party's fold."
Alleged attacks
Exuding confidence that the TDP would come to power in 2009 elections, he exhorted the party cadre not to lose heart in the wake of alleged attacks on party activists by ruling party members. Mr. Naidu said the party would set up more schools in all regions for children whose parents lost their lives for the sake of party. "We will set up a school in every district if possible," he said. The TDP president alleged that the Government had failed on all fronts. "In its three-year rule, the Congress has not given a single teacher post. For the first time, irregularities have taken place in the District Selection Committee 2006 exam in Kadapa district due to involvement of Congress leaders close to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy." Mr. Naidu alleged that the Government had also failed to supply gas to the power projects. "Our earlier observation that electric wires could one day be used for drying clothes will soon become a reality if the current power position is any indication." Later, Mr. Naidu visited Kavali and inaugurated a statue of former legislator Gottipati Kondapa Naidu. TDP former president Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy and other senior leaders were present.
Stand on Telangana
Mr. Naidu announced that the party would spell out its position on Telangana at an appropriate time. "There is no need for us to reiterate our stand on separate state to Telangana as the party has many a time made it very clear its stance (committed to an integrated State and development of all backward areas within it). And at the same time the party will also respond at an appropriate time on the issue," Mr. Naidu said. Asked to comment on senior party leader T. Devender Goud's reported concern that self-seekers had dominated the party, Mr. Naidu said that Goud had been in regular touch with him and the remark was nothing more than his personal observation.
