Fast planned to protest construction of dam by Andhra

VELLORE: Various bodies including political parties, social service organisations, farmers' associations and traders' associations have planned to organise a fast near the Palar here from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday to protest the move of Andhra Pradesh Government to construct a dam across the river in Ganesapuram in Kuppam constituency. The foundation for the dam is to be laid at the site on January 28. M.M. Basheer, social worker of Vaniyambadi, who is organising the agitation, said on Thursday that the move would paralyse the drinking water supply schemes being implemented in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur and Chennai districts. Lakh of acres of agricultural land would become fallow, he said.
