KANCHEEPURAM : Labour Welfare Minister T.M. Anbrasaran called upon the members of women self-help groups, looking for creative new designs in sarees, to pool their creative ideas and formulate new designs to tap the textile design market. Inaugurating a one-month free training programme for women SHG members here at Orikkai on Thursday, the Minister pointed out that attractive prices were offered by textile houses for new and creative saree designs. "Since you always look for new designs to suit your taste, why not take up textile designing which is highly remunerative", he said. Mr. Anbarasan urged the trainees to make best use of the programme offered to them free of cost through Mahalir Thittam. The project officer, Mahalir Thittam, Saraswathi said the course had been designed by the training house - Vishaal Textile Design Training Academy, Chennai - in such a manner that even those who did not have any prior exposure to computers could learn the art very easily. Any women with a desire to learn and a sense of creativity could emerge as a successful entrepreneur in the field. Senior manager, Indian Overseas Bank (Main Branch), Kancheepuram, Muruganandam urged the women SHGs to undertake the training sincerely. The director, VTDTA, R.Sanmuga Magesh said participants would be trained in basic art practices, basics of designs for sarees, edging practice and colour effects in designs.
